Selwyn House School

95 Cote St. Antoine

Westmount, QC

5 cm x 7 cm

As the largest building I have ever painted on such a small canvas – with the many teeny-tiny windows – the completion of Selwyn House School was, in no uncertain terms, an artistic challenge. I definitely experienced a few moments of doubt as I made my way along. When the last over-hanging leaf had been painted and my faithful, little brush washed and wiped, I leapt up from my chair and shouted “I did it! I did it! I did it!” Any person familiar with the School will note that there are several trees missing: two in front of the building and two in the foreground where the peony garden lies. Artistic license was necessary – otherwise Selwyn House would really not be visible at all.
