LISA OSTERLAND

about

Working in a small scale has appealed to Lisa since she was a very young girl.

As her extremely observant – and rather prophetic – nursery school teacher wrote in 1967 when Lisa was four-years-old, “Lisa’s small muscle coordination is exceptionally good. She manipulates scissors, pencils, paintbrushes, and crayons with dexterity. Lisa’s handwork is neat and carefully done. She is fascinated by design and color, and often becomes absorbed for long periods of time in making one intricate design filling only a small portion of her paper.”

Prior to immersing herself in the “pocket paintings” venture, Lisa worked for 20 years in elementary schools in Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts as a homeroom teacher and, later, for ten of those years as a science specialist.

Lisa holds a BA from Vassar College in Psychology with a minor in Elementary Education, and she earned her M.Ed. from Lesley College in Boston, MA.

A nationally ranked swimmer, Lisa placed first in the province of Québec in her age category for the 200-metre butterfly in 2012, 2014, 2022 & 2023, the 200-metre backstroke in 2022 & 2023, and the 400-metre individual medley (4 lengths of all four strokes) in 2023. Lisa also holds a Québec Provincial record from 2015 in the women’s medley relay (in which she swam the backstroke) which remains unbroken.

Lisa and her Canadian husband, Michael, have two sons. They live in a one-hundred-twenty-year-old, three-storey, Queen Anne townhouse in the city of Westmount (on the island of Montréal). Her studio is on the top floor.
